Busy Bee Mode Continues

Another busy shopping day.

We bought a lamp for the nursery – this one (from Ikea):

We also bought lots of space organizing stuff – now that the nursery is becoming a nursery, we need to find other solutions to store stuff And a baby video monitor – we’ll have to test it (the previous one we returned the very next day, so crappy it was). Yay for gift cards! Those monitors are expensive.

I am tired now. A whole day of shopping is tough these days.

I can’t quite understand what makes me more or less tired. Yesterday I woke up at 8 am, full of energy (despite going to bed late, after entertaining guests). Today my hubby woke me up after 10 am – and I could hardly open my eyes. Weird.

Anyway… I washed a sports bag yesterday – now I need to go and finish packing my L&D bag.

Oh, I also placed an order for the drapes fabric today. Once it arrives, I will be sewing the drapes myself! My friend lent me her sewing machine. Although I have almost no clue how to use a sewing machine, I am very excited

Now I am starting to wonder what the heck will I be doing once I finish work? My last day is only 3 weeks away. And the nursery is getting pretty ready. Hmm. I guess I will be napping, reading, watching movies

30 Weeks (Yesterday)

I was away for a few days visiting some relatives – so didn’t post the 30-week post on time! Nevertheless.

I am 30 weeks! Feels like a milestone. Three quarters of the way there. 10 weeks to go. Time is running out!

I was slightly worried about flying at this stage – especially on those tiny propeller airplanes. I don’t think I have ever flied on such a plane. It’s noisy. On the way there baby really did not appreciate all the goings on. he moved and kicked and just generally protested. We were sitting tight next to the turbine, it was really loud. On the way back, he was fine – just his usual active self But I’d rather feel him being active – and know he’s doing fine.

Got a bit freaked out by a slight lower back pain after we landed – after all, they say it might be a labour sign. But all is well.

While traveling, I started feeling really drained and exhausted – although we didn’t do much. Stayed at our relatives’ place, ate some Turkey, talked, played with their kids… But I felt like taking a nap all the time! I guess this is what trimester numero three is all about?

And from what I am hearing, it will only go down the hill from there. It will get much worse before the baby learns to sleep through the night. Oh well.

I also had an ugly dream where I wake up and discover my legs covered in ugly varicose veins that looked like warms. You know, the kind they dig from the ground for fishing. Yuck. I was relieved to wake up and find my legs fairly normal. there are a couple of spider-veins spots, but that’s about it. For now.

Got more hand-me-down baby stuff from our relatives. Yay!

We also bought a video monitor by Safety 1st – and it was ATROCIOUS. We returned it. The sound and image were good, bu the parent device had defective batteries. The very moment I unplugged the batteries (having charged them for the prescribed 12 hours), it just switched off. I went online and discovered that EVERYONE was complaining about the batteries. What’s the point of the wireless monitor if it is not, in fact, wireless? So we’ll have to do more research and find something else.

Anyway. Before this post gets too long-winded, I’m gonna end it. 30 weeks – yay!

Baby Stuff

This is the pile of presents and hand-me-downs in the baby shower aftermath. It’s all sitting in the living room since at some point we will be painting the nursery and this will be in the way there, then.

There aren’t many things that we still need to get. Crib. Carseat. A bit more sheets for the crib. I also wanna buy the walky-talky-mit-camera to keep an eye on my little one.

And that’s it, I think.

The hand-me-down clothes will have to be washed. By the way, do I have to use a special detergent? And do I have to wash baby clothes separately from ours?

I am actually itching to start redoing the nursery. But first I need to buy some fabric to redrape the gliding chair and to make curtains…

Loot!

This weekend we got LOTS of baby stuff from my hubby’s best friend. Their youngest (third) daughter is 2.5 years old now and they’re not planning on having more kids – so they’re giving away lots of stuff.

We got a stroller! I wouldn’t have picked this one, I guess, if I were buying – but for free?! Sign me up! It’s a luxury stroller (was $500 when they bought it 3 years ago), three wheels, fully reclining (and when you raise the back it clicks itself into positions! and it’s excellent for newborns!), reversible… I don’t like that it’s black (bo-ring!) and that it doesn’t have cup trays – neither for me, nor for the baby.

They gave us some toys, a playmat (or what those things are called? the ones like a blanket for tummy time?), a whole bag os I don’t even know what…

They’re giving away a nursing chair, too. That one is really old – she fed all three babies in it (so it’s 10 years old) and it’s faux leather – all worn out. And it’s black, too (bo-ring!). Does anyone know who to change upholstery?..

We have so much stuff now! We already have a playpen, a nursing pillow, some creams and stuff…

My friend told me she will give me for my shower a basket of tried-and-true creams, lotions, etc. – based on her experience with 2 kids. She said she already gave this to 2 of hir friends and they both were so happy! I can see that. I wouldn’t even know where to start – there are so many different things!

I need to get going on the nursery!!!

 

Gift Registry

I am due on Feb. 5th. So baby shower in January is too close. And in December everyone is busy with family and corporate Christmas parties (or holidays season, to be politically correct). And in the end of November we will be busy. Which means… my baby shower is only a couple of months away. What??? TWO MONTHS???

It means I need to get going, and get going soon. I need to provide my friends with the suggested guest list. Um. Some of the people I’d like to invite are still unaware that I am pregnant!

There goes the fb announcement – posted it today. Finally.

It also means I need to register for gifts. So I ran to the toysrus store today and there were so many people despite it being a weekday! All because they have their sales time, like 25-30% off many things. But I got a bag of all kinds of samples, a “nasal aspirator” – you know, that thing that sucks the mucus out of a baby’s nose, a bottle, a pacifier… They gave it to me to make me feel better about the long wait. It worked, I do feel better And I just love the amount of baby stuff that started to grow at our house!

Some of the things I added to the registry are final (like a diaper bag, bathtub, and a few other things) – the rest needs revisions. Hopefully I will find out on Wednesday whether we’re expecting a boy or a girl – and then will be able to alter some of the choices. I don’t want everything to be green and yellow!

Finally, and most importantly, I called my ob-gyn’s office on Wednesday to ensure they received the blood and ultrasound test results – in time for my ob-gyn appointment on Monday. The secretary called me back today, and left a voicemail: yes, they received the results  – and they’re negative! I am talking about the down-syndrome u/s-and-blood results. Yay! I wish I knew earlier they give away test results over the phone.

Knowing the test results, it was easier to finally “go out of the closet” and post the status update on fb.

Time is flying, pregnancy is so real now – with the baby kicking, the people talking and asking me about the baby, the planning of my sister’s visit in February, the shopping… And I am almost half way through the pregnancy. When did this happen? Next thing I know, I our baby will be 1 year old and it will be time for me to go back to work ))

First Baby Outfit, First Pregnancy Question

Last week I had a business lunch with someone I used to do business with in my previous job. They’re interested in getting business from me in my new position. We got talking, and I shared my pregnancy news, and he showed me pics of his 7-month, and…

This morning I discovered a parcel, inside which was a cute white onesie, branded with their logo. And it’s the first baby item we got! So unexpectedely, who would’ve though the first one would come from a business partner

I got also asked today for the first time whether I am pregnant. I guess it is showing prominently enough now that the woman wasn’t afraid to pose the question (and to hear “no, I am just fat” )

Baby Stuff

I took my first trip to the baby store today – I went to toys’r'us.

Right away I realized I have never been to this store on a weekday afternoon – the store welcomed me with a newborn cry (only newborn cry so quietly) and a couple of VERY pregnant woman right in front of me.

I walked around like in a museum, rarely touching anything.

I read some labels, but most were more confusing than helping. They were listing all these functional things they offer which didn’t tell me a thing. I am a first-time mom, I have no idea what half of these are and why should I care. Bad marketing, I say.

I folded and unfolded a couple of strollers. I tried to understand why everyone is saying wheel size is so important – all the wheels looked the same size to me.

I got amused by an orthodontic (!) pacifier.

Bathtubs looked really, really uncomfortable, all with these weird plastic shapes.

I left confused, clutching a catalogue. I came home and put a hold on that book everyone recommends in the library – the one with the reviews of all baby products.

But hey, I made my first trip to the baby store. And although I did feel like an impostor among all those very pregnant women, I feel good about taking this step forward
