Cuban Babymoon

9 Oct

Perhaps the most precious thing about our babymoon was the time to recharge and rebalance – emotionally. The days rolled lazily one after the other, with no rush of going sightseeing, or catching a meal (it’s all-inclusive… it’s meal time any time ;)), or a single worry in the world. I slept like a baby there, falling asleep the moment my head touched my pillow. I felt immensely content and calm and serene. And – focused on what is happening inside me, looking into the future, imagining how things will be come February.

It was perfect. The slow rhythm of the book (“The Shell Seekers”, awesome book for a lazy vacation – or for long winter nights). The green hummingbirds. The dragonflies criss-crossing the pool just above the water. The ever-changing weather (it’s still hurricane season in the Caribbean). The Cuban cappuccinos in the morning and ice-creams in the afternoon. The pancakes for breakfast. The salsa entertainment in the evening. The white sands of Varadero beach. The orange coconuts in the palms. The peculiar lizards, with their tails curled like dogs’ tails. The friendly Cubans pampering pregnant me. The light breeze in the white curtains of the little cabanas by the poolside, ever available due to low season. The blue pool. The turquoise sea.

And the baby. The way the baby moves when I swim. The way it kicks when the salsa music gets loud. The way it protests when I switch sides too abruptly while lounging by the pool.

The evenings we spent sitting on the couch in the lobby, drinking mint tea, both mine and my hubby’s hands on my belly, rubbing, pressing, tapping – in response to the baby.

It was perfect. Slow. Serene. And it truly felt like the three of us. The real family.

it was strange being in an all-inclusive and not consuming alcohol πŸ˜‰
although I took a few sips of red wine here and there… just because we felt like raising our glasses
