Hair-drying Lullaby

30 Sep

The woman told me this story while doing my pedicure. When she was pregnant with her daughter, she worked in a hair salon. She moved around her clients, snip-snipping their hair off, blowing their hair dry, rocking her baby to sleep with her constant movement. Baby never moved while she was on her feet.

Than when the baby was born, one day they couldn’t calm her down. Whatever they did, she remained cranky and kept crying. The woman had to go somewhere, so she went to take a shower. When she was blow-drying her hair, her husband entered the bathroom with their crying baby. All of a sudden, the baby stopped crying.

It took them a few more days to figure this out, but finally they realized: the baby associates the sound of the hairdryer with the comfort of sleeping inside her mother’s womb. She calms down and goes to sleep – whenever the hairdryer is on.

Isn’t that amazing? I read a suggestion that you should either sing or read nursery rhymes to your unborn child – and after the child is born, it will remain their “pacifier”. I feel a bit awkward reading nursery rhymes to my own belly button LOL, but singing? Yeah, I can do that. I just have to figure out which song to make the IT song so as to not get too tired of it…

PCOS, Waxing the Hair, Pregnancy Hormones

28 Sep

Got a newsletter today – talking about hair removal while pregnant. Funny – right after I waxed yesterday 😉 Anyway, I read it and what I found interesting was that they suggested increased hairiness during pregnancy – like upper lip etc.

I have PCOS. I have always had a bit of a mustache going on. But since I got pregnant – they disappeared. There is less hair and it’s blond in colour. I am not blond. No one would notice it or consider it a mustache. Funny. Yeah, no hair on my belly, chin, upper lip… It’s all actually better than it used to be! I love pregnancy 😉

I heard PCOS gives up on you sometimes after pregnancy. I heard the hormones sometimes come to balance after you give birth – and you become a normal woman, with a cycle, with ovulation, with regular periods… Oh how I wish all things will become normal – and I will be able to get pregnant on my own next time around!

PS While most newsletters I receive from pregnancy websites are right what I need, there’s this one website that would send me information about menopause and calcium deficiency in golden age… Clearly, they have never heard of CRM databases there!

Loot!

26 Sep

This weekend we got LOTS of baby stuff from my hubby’s best friend. Their youngest (third) daughter is 2.5 years old now and they’re not planning on having more kids – so they’re giving away lots of stuff.

We got a stroller! I wouldn’t have picked this one, I guess, if I were buying – but for free?! Sign me up! It’s a luxury stroller (was $500 when they bought it 3 years ago), three wheels, fully reclining (and when you raise the back it clicks itself into positions! and it’s excellent for newborns!), reversible… I don’t like that it’s black (bo-ring!) and that it doesn’t have cup trays – neither for me, nor for the baby.

They gave us some toys, a playmat (or what those things are called? the ones like a blanket for tummy time?), a whole bag os I don’t even know what…

They’re giving away a nursing chair, too. That one is really old – she fed all three babies in it (so it’s 10 years old) and it’s faux leather – all worn out. And it’s black, too (bo-ring!). Does anyone know who to change upholstery?..

We have so much stuff now! We already have a playpen, a nursing pillow, some creams and stuff…

My friend told me she will give me for my shower a basket of tried-and-true creams, lotions, etc. – based on her experience with 2 kids. She said she already gave this to 2 of hir friends and they both were so happy! I can see that. I wouldn’t even know where to start – there are so many different things!

My friend works at P&G so she already got us some diapers 😉

I need to get going on the nursery!!!

21 Weeks

25 Sep

Aaaand we’re firmly into the second half of the pregnancy.

We spent like half an hour in bed this morning. No, not what you thought – we watched our son moving around in my belly. Watched and felt his kicks and enjoyed our little family moment. So cool.

The baby is 3/4 of a pound now! And it’s 27 cm head to heel. I was 56 cm when I was born – so the baby is already about half the size it will be when it’s born.

The baby’s feeling with its skin. If I press against my belly, he feels it – or so internet says. Very cool!

My weight gain is still well on track – about 12 pounds so far. At least third of it is my boobs, I am certain 😉

The weather was gorgeous today. We went for a walk. Funny: we moved into this neighbourhood last fall, and we found some really cool places here that we never saw before!

And then I had some friends over from my old job. A nice girls’ afternoon in. Although I am uncomfortably full now – too much food! I think even the baby feels the pressure of all I ate 😉 I had a tiny bit of red wine , too – like half a dozen sips – and I feel uncharacteristically buzzed and sleepy now. Odd.

Overall – great day.
